Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

Back in the 60's we had the hippies (or flower children) who practiced a doctrine of "make love, not war". Many of them lived in communes where they planted gardens and lived off the earth. They lived simply. A lot of them also lived a lifestyle that included free sex and and a lot of drugs. They peacefully demonstrated against the Viet Nam War (or conflict, as it was called back then). While their basic tenets were sound, they carried things to extremes. They lost credibility because of the excesses they practiced.

When I think back to those days, I wonder what would have happened if the hippies had lived more moderately. Would some of the beliefs they held have spread and affected a larger segment of the population? Is there anything wrong with showing our love for one another, or focusing on the beauty of this earth rather than on a stuggle to make more and more money? Could we all live more happily with fewer material goods?

Obviously the hippies weren't "zoned out" all the time. A lot of what they said made complete sense. What is the most important thing in our lives? Is it living together in peace and harmony or is it joining the rat race so we can buy more, and more, and more stuff?

We buy stuff that we don't have a use for, some of which we don't even want. Why do we buy it? Is it to look prosperous to our friends? Is it to improve our own self-image? Why have we become a society of procurers of stuff? Buying things that are meaningful to us is one thing ~ buying things just to achieve or maintain a certain status is another.

I hate to say it but we've become a society of materialistic snobs. We look down on someone who drives an old, beaten up car or who doesn't dress in the current fashion. We judge people by how much they have, not by who they are.

I think all of our possessions have crowded out our common sense and surely a lot of our humanity. When we see a homeless person on the street we automatically consider him or her a loser; someone who has no ambition, a derelect and probably an addict. We seem to think he or she has chosen that way of life. Do we stop to realize that the only thing that may separate us from them is a "pink slip"?

Some homeless people were once just like us. They had families who loved them, they held jobs and supported themselves, they lived like you and me. But then something catastrophic happened. Maybe one lost his job and couldn't find another. Maybe another tragically lost a loved one and couldn't deal with the loss. Maybe someone else was horribly mistreated by people whom she loved and trusted. We don't know their stories.

Neither do we know the stories of the middle aged man who drives a battered up car and dresses in ragged clothing, the young woman who struggles to raise her child alone, or an elderly couple who has grown embittered with life. But we have a name for all of them, don't we?

Instead of labeling people, what if we did something to try and help them? Maybe we have no more to give than a pleasant smile and a warm greeting or maybe we have time to volunteer at a shelter or soup kitchen. Maybe we could visit the lonely souls whose families have forgotten them . . . you can find them anywhere. We could donate to a food pantry for the poor or support a charitable organization that makes a difference. It doesn't matter how much or how little we have to give ~ the important thing is that we give.

And just maybe, we should think about the old adage "there but for the grace of God go I". A basic truth in life is that no one is guaranteed that the comfortable lifestyle he lives will last forever. In the blink of an eye we, too, can be poor, alone or homeless. Maybe we should think about that the next time we're out shopping for stuff and come across someone who is less fortunate. Maybe we won't be so quick to judge.

Next time you go on a shopping spree, consider the amount you've spent on things you don't need. Think about how much that money would mean to a man who doesn't have enough to eat, a mother who can't buy her growing children new clothes, or the family who can't pay their electric bill. Then tell me who deserves to be judged.

Maybe the hippies had a point when they proposed that we all love and take care of one another.

Options Galore for Technology Professionals Keen in Canada Immigration

It is an open secret that Canada, the Maple country, leads the world in the field of science & technology. Even though the nation produces industry heads across several technology domains, one thing is required to make certain that the industry remains in the pink of its health is a flood of qualified technology experts or professionals to the nation.

Actually, with a view to filling job vacancies in the near future, trained migrants, together with temporary employees, will be required throughout Canada-that too on a large scale. The good news is that for both the country and for the overseas workers, who could be interested in Canada immigration, the nation has come-up with many attractive programs and visa-options.

Canada Technology Domain

A recent study, done by a concerned organization, reveals that certain industries involving technology such as--Information & Communications Technology, Environmental Technologies--by and large have continued to be robust across the nation.

The said organization also highlighted the geographical areas which are undergoing a gush of production related to science & technology even as the most fruitful provinces in the said domain happen to be Quebec, British Columbia (BC), Ontario, etc.

Choices Involving Technology Experts

People having professional experience and expertise in the field of technology have many choices to arrive on the shores of the Maple Country even as these options will vary on the basis of the individual's specific domain of doings, personal profile, and immigration targets.

Here below is given some examples of programs which tech professionals have, time and again, made use of:

Choices Involving Permanent Residency (PR) Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP): Candidates having experience in a targeted domain of study/area of training could be qualified to duly file a petition. Many of these targeted domains come into the territory of technology.

Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC): Another option is through this class. Reportedly, fresh rules would come into force on January 1, 2013. Candidates having work experience in any trained vocation--for the object of immigration to Canada -- could be qualified to duly file a petition even as the same covers most of the professionals from engineering, computer, and other technical fields.

Choices Involving Temporary Work Permit

Quebec Facilitated Labor Market Opinion (LMO) Procedure: The program covers candidates from a variety of domains, such as engineering and information technology (IT). The recruiters/firms from the Quebec province will be in a position to get an LMO--an important step in recruiting an overseas worker, minus having to cater to requirements involving standard local employment.

Temporary Work Permit: All qualified workers with an LMO-based offer of job from a recruiter/firm of Canada could be qualified to duly file an application for this permit.

In spite of the path followed, people having skills in a domain such as the tech sector may remain certain that they will gain admission into a robust marketplace even as it (the marketplace) seriously requires their exclusive professional expertise.

Pay Per Click: An Unique Way to Get Targeted Traffic

What is Pay Per Click?

Pay per Click may be defined as the internet advertising model where the advertisers have to pay to get the clicks for the visitors. It is the sponsored form of advertising which helps to attract targeted traffic. As the name 'Pay per Click' reveals, the payment takes place when any visitor clicks on the advertisement. The advertisements are generally displayed either in search engine results or in the websites. The keywords or key phrases are chosen wisely according to the target market while doing a PPC campaign.

Process of PPC campaign:

Planning and strategy: At first, proper planning and strategy should be made to choose the target traffic i.e., to attract effective clicks for getting proper business for the project.

Market Segmentation: Segmenting the market is very important before starting the campaign. So, the location for the campaign should be chosen wisely.

Keyword Selection: Proper keywords should be selected while starting any project. Keyword selection is very essential as proper keywords can only bring the targeted traffic. After the keyword research, converting and optimizing those keywords for the business is required. Any PPC company who is having a conversion rate of 3 percent can be considered a successful one.

Ad Copy: Making a proper ad copy is one of the biggest challenges for a PPC company. Specific ads for specific keywords should be generated to attract the targeted visitors. Broader or generalized ads will not be successful in this case. The advertisement should be made keeping the target market in the mind. For example, if the ad is about the products for children, the language used there should not be like any industrial product. The ad should have a feel that will attract the 'children' section in the market.

Value Propositions: Value propositions should be created wisely. It can be generated in two different phases. In the first phase, the propositions can be made internally within the team members of the PPC Company. Whereas, in the second phase of value proposition there should be a unique message for the market which clearly signifies the statement which should get prominence in the market. Before creating the unique value propositions, the Pay Per Click Company should be well aware of the strengths of the products or services which are to be advertised.

Customer Acquisitions: A proper Customer acquisition management is beneficial while doing any PPC campaign. It is one of the important PPC strategies that help to attract the positive customers only. The main target of any PPC campaign is to bring business for the company. Thus, acquiring the right customers for the right products or services is very important.

Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring and reporting are required while performing any PPC activities. Monitoring the account is necessary to prevent any click frauds or scams. Some particular information like IP address, geographic location, user agent, keywords, date and time etc can be inserted in the Click fraud detection software to get the result. Finally the PPC reports like keyword reports, text ad reports, search query performances and ad campaign reports are generated to measure the performance.

Thus, in short, all the above mentioned topics clearly signify the methodology to create a successful PPC campaign.

The Ivory Tower Syndrome

"His cardinal mistake is that he isolates himself, and allows nobody to see him; and by which he does not know what is going on in the very matter he is dealing with. - Abraham Lincoln on his reason for relieving Gen. John C Fremont of his Missouri command. (September 1861)

How many times have you been given direction from your boss or the "head office" where you find yourself just shaking your head, wondering how the executive team could possibly have made such an uninformed decision? Maybe they have implemented a new cost control program that eats at the heart of your implementation process, putting you into a position where you can't possibly meet your delivery commitments. Or they roll out a new sales promotion that is not supported by your systems and almost assuredly will result in unhappy customers.

In my younger years I worked as an accountant at the head office of a shoe retail chain. We were suffering some significant losses in some stores and implemented some new control systems. Later I was shopping in one of our stores where the sales clerks did not know me. They were bemoaning the latest directive from "The Ivory Tower" and how silly it was and how difficult it made their job.

"These guys just don't get it", they were saying. "They've totally lost touch with what goes on in the real world." I was young, and very confident that we in the head office had a bigger, more complete view of the situation than these sales clerks did. I was confident that they were the ones who had lost touch. They just didn't see the big picture. Sound familiar?

I know that I heard a similar refrain at least 100 times in my career. The people in the field were convinced that the people in "The Ivory Tower" were out of touch. The executives in the home office were convinced that they had taken the proper steps based on "the big picture".

Who was right? It's hard to tell. There is no pat answer. Surely not every decision the executives make is correct, nor is every decision they make wrong. But as Lincoln intimated when he replaced General Freemont, it's not a good thing to lose touch with what is happening on the front lines.

Leaders that isolate themselves too much from the day-to-day activity of their business take the risk of losing touch with their employees, their customers, and even the companies' mission. In fact, there is an old joke about how decisions are made with input from the front lines that gets so badly distorted by the time it reaches the executives that it bears no semblance to the original message. Some people would tell you that this represents a communications problem. And to an extent, it does. But it also represents an executive team that is out of touch because it relies entirely on the chain of command to get information about important issues instead of being directly plugged into the day-to-day activities.

But here is an important thought that every reader needs to keep in mind. My experience is that the first line managers are just as likely to be out of touch with the day-to-day activities as the executive team is. If you are failing to walk the floor to talk with your employees; If you are failing to open the lines of communications on what happens on a daily basis; If you are so absorbed in meetings that you don't spend direct time with your first line staff then you too take the risk of not truly understanding your business. And that is much more risky then what happens in "The Ivory Tower".

How About a Simple IQ Test Required At The Polls Before Voting - Very Simple

If someone can't read, should they be allowed to vote? Well, apparently that is the case, they are allowed to vote. But what if someone has such a low IQ that they cannot reason or even make a decent decision? In that case they are liable to believe anything that a politician promises them up at a podium while reading a teleprompter. In fact hasn't that happened in the past? Isn't that why the country is in economic despair currently?

Anyone can promote a theme of hope, change, or utopian future where the government provides everything for free, and we all get to sit in flower gardens drinking our favorite alcoholic beverage and listening to our favorite band. Now, I am assuming that you are more grown-up than that, and the fact that you are reading this article proves you can read, and that you fully understand what I'm saying here and not only agree with me, but realize that utopian dream is not going to be possible without a lot of hard work.

You see, at some point we need to ensure that those that vote can actually reason and think. Otherwise, their vote is only going to be a vector of the psychological mass manipulation of society by the media. If folks will believe anything they hear on the radio or see on TV, or they will believe anything that someone says while reading a teleprompter in front of the podium, then they will vote for the wrong things and the wrong people. There are many tests on the standard IQ test that are quite simple. For instance if triangles are all the same, or what item should come next in a series.

If these people can pass those very simple IQ tests which most chimpanzees can do, then I would submit to you that they can at least have enough sense of the world to make a decent intuitive guess, or use a little bit of simple logical reasoning in order to vote. However, if they can do that, maybe they shouldn't vote at all, because they are merely led astray by the mass manipulation of political campaigns. Now in writing this article, obviously I have a certain politician in mind who I believe that only a low IQ person would vote for.

Rather than mentioning that person's name because we all know who he is, maybe we should have a simple IQ test to make sure that people like this never get into office again. Wouldn't that be what's best for our country? Maybe it's time that we had a cut off, perhaps 80 or 85 IQ before someone was allowed to vote. Just being old enough isn't sufficient. There are third-graders who would not have voted for this gentleman, and you see my point? Please consider all this and think on it.
